Let’s face it everyone WANTS and NEEDS to be happy.  Take and live by these 15 “Quotes” daily and you will be happy.

1.    Stay Positive

“Life is a shipwreck but we must not forget to sing in the lifeboats.” – Voltaire  –  Life can seem as though it is a shipwreck at times, but when we look for the positive in the troubled waters we will find the sun coming up on the horizon.  Always remember to sing louder than the storm.

2.    Actions Make a difference

“I always plucked a thistle and planted a flower where I thought a flower would grow.” — Abraham Lincoln –   Weed spray works the same way that positive thinking does.  So pluck the thistles of life with a dose of positive thinking and you will see the flowers bloom day after day.

3.    Be Adaptable and Flexible

“We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails.” —               Author Unknown – There are something’s in life we can control and there are other things we have no control over.  Be flexible in what you can control and the solution will come to you.  Adapt to what you cannot control and it will work itself out in time.

4.    Let go of Anger and Frustration

“To be upset over what you don’t have is to waste what you do have.” — Ken S. Keyes – Be grateful for all the good things in your life.  The loving relationships with family and friends.  Be thankful for the food to eat, air to breath and shelter on those cold winter nights.  Many homeless people would love to walk in your shoes.

5.    Learn to Appreciation and Have Gratitude

“Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.”Robert Brault Oh, how important those little things are!  It is not the house we live in that counts, but the relationships we build.  When you are on your death bed would you rather be in a big house alone or in a little home with people that love you and don’t want you to be alone in your hour of need?  Memories with others are what count, not that beautiful sofa you dared not to sit on, because it might get dirty.

6.   Have a Good Attitude, Disposition, and Character

“Happiness is an attitude.  We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong.  The amount of work is the same.” — Francesca Reigler –  Smiles take less work that frowns do.  Would you rather spend your time around a person with a good attitude, happy disposition and strong moral character than a lazy person with no moral code and a bad attitude?  The choice is yours!  We can be who we want to be!

7.   Defeats, setbacks and failure are learning experiences

“A car can’t operate without the mechanical systems working, but it can operate with a few dents and scratches … you are the same.” — Mike Dolan –   Everyone as dents and scratches, some on the outside and some in the inside.  They make us stronger and help us become the person that we were always intended to become.  Wear those dents and scratches with pride, you earned them.

8.   Expect nothing

“The best things in life are unexpected – because there were no expectations.” — Eli Khamarov – When we learn to take things as they come with no expectations, we learn to enjoy every moment.  When going for a walk, don’t think of it as I have to exercise, think of it as enjoying nature on the walk.  It is Ok to stop and smell the neighbor’s flowers. Don’t plug in the music on your phone you will miss out hearing the birds sing or the wind slightly blowing the tree leave.  How would you feel if you never heard a bird sing again or could not smell a flower?

9.    Stay Focused and Have Perspective

“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” –  Henri Matisse –  When you look at a rose do you see the beauty in the flower or the thorns on the stem?  For me; I focus on the beauty of the flower understanding the pain the thorns can bring.  With happiness you have to keep those unexpected times in perspective and focus on the good that comes from pain, just like a rose.

10.    Fear Less and Hope More

“Fear less, hope more; Eat less, chew more; Whine less, breathe more; Talk less, say more; Love more, and all good things will be yours.”Swedish Proverb – Fear, whining and talking negative is the devil guiding you.  Hope and positive talk with more love is the Lord guiding you.  Which one do you want at your helm?

11.    Optimism With a Little Humor Thrown In

“Sometimes life’s Hell.  But hey!  Whatever gets the marshmallows toasty.” — J. Andrew Helt –  Finding the bright side of life’s situations and adding humor to them, puts a smile on your face, a good attitude in your mind, so you can find a solution for any situation.

 12.  Letting Things Go and Forgiving

“The best thing to give to your enemy is forgiveness; to an opponent, tolerance; to a friend, your heart; to your child, a good example; to a father, deference; to your mother, conduct that will make her proud of you; to yourself, respect; to all men, charity.” — Benjamin Franklin Forgiving frees you to move on and leave the past behind.  You can only be hurt by others actions or words when you keep them close by your side.  Wish them well and have empathy for them.

13.  Learn to Love and Like Others

“A loving person lives in a loving world.  A hostile person lives in a hostile world; everyone you meet is your mirror.” — Ken Keyes, Jr. – When you look in the mirror do you want to see a hostile world or a loving world?  We are who we think we are, so go like a lot of people and love the rest of them. You world will change into a bright sunshine day.

14.  Always Look for the Opportunities and Possibilities

“Learn to smile at every situation.  See it as an opportunity to prove your strength and ability.” — Joe Brown – In every situation you will find opportunities with new possibilities when you look on the positive side. Enjoy the pride you will feel when realizing the strength that you have at your finger tips.

15.  Be a Positive Thinker

Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.” — Alphonse Karr – See how positive thinking can change anything.  The rose is one of the most beautiful flowers and yes it does have thorns.  But when you see the beauty in the flower you forget about the thorns.  Life is like the rose.  In order to grow and become the person we are meant to be we have to feel the pain, learn from it, so stop the grumbling about life being unfair, it is causing you to bloom into that beautiful rose.

  2. “Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” — Robert Brault –
This quote is one of my favorites! And I have this posted on my computer, to remind me of it whenever I’m feeling blue and getting “tired” of everyday routine.

Your #15“Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.” — Alphonse Karr –
This is really new to me. And I am starting to like it too! Thanks for sharing!

      Hi Felicia,

You are very welcome. Glad to be of help to you. It is the little things that really matter in life. We can get so busy that we just let them slide by. I to like the one about roses. “To me the rose represents life in many ways. We travel down the road of life and there is pain on the way, but if we stay on the path and make the right choices we can move over, under or around the thorns and find the beauty in the world and life. This is our happiness when we see past the troubles and see the beauty.

Thanks again for sharing and blessings to you always,

This is the perfect post for me to read on Mother’s day. Exactly what I’m trying to teach my child through living it myself…..these are really the things you need to be successful in life and will get you a lot further than math or science (although those can be valuable too).

It is great to see that smiling face of yours again. Nice to have you back. Math and science are important for life, but happiness is found in our attitude and they way we choose to live. Hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day.

Thanks again and your daughter is going to turn out as beautiful and loving as her mother.

      Blessings to you Michelle,

  4. “Always remember to sing louder than the storm.” I love that one! :-] Reminds me of a scene in Forest Gump. If with your 15 laws people don’t find happiness, they must be doing something wrong, such as thinking unhappy is the cool thing to be, looking at happiness as kind of a cheap word. Or maybe they’re waiting. Waiting for law number 16, extracted from my very own Leap Of Action: “Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action”. (Benjamin Disraeli) … lol … Personally, as a recovered unhappy, my favorite insight in favor of happiness is a Samuel Beckett quote: “Nothing is funnier than unhappiness”. The “law” of my own happiness is quite simple: I love love and hate hate. ~Beat
PS. Not sure whether the singing in the lifeboat quote is really Voltaire. Maybe it’s his “life’s a shipwreck” quote – just very liberally translated. Secrets of the internet …

      Hi Beat,

I like that 16th on you talk about Beat, “Action may not always bring happiness, buth there is no happiness without action.” (Benjamin “Disraeli) Just may have to use that one in the book Corinne is telling me I need to write.

When it comes to singing louder that the storm, it makes me feel stronger and have the strenght to get past the storm onto dry ground. Thanks for sharing and adding another quote to the post, always appreciate this.
      Blessings to you always,
      Debbie

  5. Debbie

I like them all but I do like 6 the best.

We all have the choice to determine our attitude and outlook on life.

I know there will be times when we feel down but there will be rare, right?

    I much prefer positive people!

      Hi Andrew,

6 is a good one, “Happiness is an attitude. We ewither make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same.” Yes, there are times when we feel down, but with the right attitude we will feel better. If that doesn’t work take a nice bubble bath with a little wine and say, “Heck with the world for a while.” This works for me on those rare occassions.

As for positive people they just add the sun shine to the darkness when it comes. Have to love that.

Thanks for sharing those thought of yours Andrew, they are always appreciated.
      Blessings to you always,
      Debbie

Thanks Anne. I like 11 too. Love those toasty marshmallows. When you think of that quote, “Sometimes life’s Hell! Whatever gets the marshamallows toasty” I think of any time that I have toasted marshmallows has been with family or friends that the fun you can have doing it. Just makes the hellish moments melt aways.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts about this post. I do appricate it and wishing you a wonderful week.

      Hi Joel,

Thank you Joel.. When it comes to anger and frustration my hubby learned a new one on that yesterday. He was having trouble with his PC. Tried to call our normal IT guy, but wouldn’t answer the phone and didn’t return a message. Steve called me very angry (I must say) and said, “Find another computer guy” and just hung up. I to had been trying to call him with know luck. I found another guy and he came out this morning and is wonderful. Steve response was, “Guess I shouldn’t get so angry and frustrated, when one door closes a better one opens up.” This is very true. There is always a reason when things don’t go right, we just have to show a little faith and trust that something better is waiting for us.
When we don’t let go or forgive, it never hurts the other person it only drags us down and keeps us there. The last laugh is on us, not them when this happens.
Now you can look at 15 and be that positive thinker, RIGHT!

Thanks Joel for sharing, I always appreciate it.
      Blessings to you,
      Debbie

      • I guess it’s a mindset thing. I notice you say your first computer guy “wouldn’t” answer the phone. Perhaps he “couldn’t” instead even though he wanted to. In your mind you think someone might be avoiding you but perhaps it’s all innocent, but your mind can pay tricks.

          Hi Joel,

Yes, it could be a miss understanding, but we have had a little problems with him before. He had a store front shop, but the rent got to high so he moved it to his house. Which we didn’t have a problem with that. I do realize that unexpected things do come up, but he does have a receptionist that answers the phone and he does have 2 other guys that work for him. Sometimes when I would call i would get the answering machine or a busy signal. I though that maybe he was having phone problems, but Steve had left him a message on Friday and never did get a response from that message.

You are probably right that something foreseen came up. If that did happen and we get a call from him I’ll just let him know that we solved the problem and give him another change. I did go to his website and tried to send him and email, but the email would not go through. so I am kind of wondering if he is giving up the business.
Until than I will wait and see if he does call us or in a week I’ll call him and see if I get an answer and make sure he is OK. He is a real nice guy and very knowledgeable. Actual would hate to lose him. Had him do work for us for 15 years.

Thanks though for bring me in line that those unexpected things can come up. Guess, I was a little hard on him.
          Blessings to you Joel,
          Debbie

  9. Earlier this year, I discovered the importance of taking action. Unless you take action, you’ll never get to where you want to go. If you’re doing something, you can always make corrections, but corrections don’t help unless you’re moving.

As for gratitude, I’ve recently been learning the importance of gratitude, even as I have struggled with trying to express it this week end.

Fantastic post, Debbie! I’m grateful I read it today 😀

      Hi Grady,

Actions speak louder than words. Sometimes we find ourselves talking about something, but we don’t put and action to it. It is kind of like having our car stuck in the mud and we just stand around looking at the problem rather than figuring out how to get ourselves out of the problem.

As you say corrections don’t help unless you keep moving.

Gratitude is very important. We always need to start with the little things. I am grateful that you read the post also and that you took the time to share your thoughts on it.
Blessings to you Grady and have a wonderful day,
      Debbie
